Pitstop@ Pune- The Oxford of the East

After having an energetic session at the city of lakes, Thane our next stop was Pune the Queen of the Deccan.  True to her title Pune greeted us with palaces, forts and historical monuments that made us feel as if we were flipping the pages of a history textbook. We then headed forward as we knew we had a power packed day ahead. Our first stop at Pune was Foundation for Liberal and Management Education popularly know as FLAME. Here we had an interactive session with the students of School Of Communication and met Mr.Rajnish Krishna the Dean of School of Communication. We further had a tete a tete with Mr. Subrata Bhowmick an alumnus of NID and one of the most revered graphics designer from India who sits on the advisory council of FLAME. After an interactive session here, Mentor on Road decided to set up an incubation center at FLAME to give further impetus to the students and faculties their.

We then had a meeting with the members of Junior Chamber International, Right to Research Foundation and Knowledge city wherein after much deliberations we suggested them to set up an IT SME consortia. This was mainly suggested because as we know Pune is a major IT hub of India and further they have a large number of good educational institutions which sets the correct stage for further IT development. Here we met Dhananjay a highly inspiring individual who was vehemently working and doing research in the area of accessibility with an intent to bring larger good to society.

“Never lose the spirit of innovation” this was what we felt after meeting many enterprising individuals in Pune with great ideas and a zeal to do more and achieve great heights. We had an interesting talk with one similar entrepreneur who wished to venture in the field of camel milk and wished to produce and export in states of Maharastra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. Catechins, antioxidants etc as the world gets fascinated with these terms due to the benefits it offers Dr.Nandedkar of www.natureved.com, wishes to harness this lucrative option and in this regard he is manufacturing a brand of herbal tea in Pune and seeing the lucrative tea industry he is now planning to venture in the global arena and export his herbal tea throughout the world. We then met Mr. Devendra Sarda who is the CEO and founder of Apne Area Mei.com. This site aims to provide a one stop solution to the residents of Pune as it allows you to search for doctors, schools etc in Pune, order your food online, it serves as a job portal, provides a forum to raise issues and it even allows to find groups for kitty parties.
The high of the day for us was the seminar on What is Make in India? conducted by Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. Here we had a talk regarding how to access international markets and the growing opportunities for SME’s to get into joint ventures in foreign soils. A lot of points were discussed here and one major idea which came up was we should promote a SEZ from Pune in China as this would pave an opportunity for investment. Women power and the need to promote it,  today much is talked about this  across the nation but we felt that Pune epitomises this as it has been nurturing many an ambitious women realise their dreams.  Here we got an opportunity to meet and interact with women entrepreneurs like Neha Khare, Ami Sheth, Sneha Joglekar & Sonal Babhulgaonkar who are carving a niche for themselves in the corporate world.

Thus, as the sun slowly started its westward journey it was time for us to bid adieu to the city of Pune which like its name of Oxford of the east filled us with an appetite to learn more and with this we continued our escapade to the Sugar Bowl of Karnataka Belgaum.
