Punjab is the developing state, small scale industries plays an important role. Small Scale Industries are labour oriented industry and require less capital investment. Punjab is labour surplus state and faces shortage of capital and here is shortage of natural resources like iron, coal and minerals. These resources are far away from the state and attract the high transport cost. Whereas small scale industry uses local raw material or it is labour oriented industry.
In the recent past years small scale industry has made the very good progress ion the state but still they face number of problems which are high lighted at the end of report these problems are high transportation cost, high labour cost, shortage of powers, high rate of state taxes, lack of central assistance.

But the Punjab government has earmarked a land bank of over 300 acres with pre-cleared government sites to promote setting up of new industry. The step has been taken to facilitate PM Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign in the state.
The land bank comprises 662 plots with all necessary approvals already done, said Madan Mohan Mittal, Punjab industries and commerce minister at a workshop on Make in India in Punjab organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the department of industrial policy & promotion (DIPP) at CII headquarters.

We met 40 odd Business Professionals when we were addressing at Mohali Industries association on 5th December at their office. Had a very qualitative discussion on idea of Make in India and growth of industries in India.

They all had very great inputs on how SMEs play an important role in growing the industrial scenario of Punjab. At the same time they were keen on promoting exports from Punjab to global markets. They are hopeful about the current changing scenarios of economy in India.
