Social Kahani - Bal Rashmi | Jaipur

On December 2, Mentor on Road visited the Bal Rashmi, society for women empowerment. We were able to see first hand some of the wonderful work they are doing to empower women and girls in various communities.

They provide education support, focusing on girls from marginalized communities, by working with families and schools to ensure every girl is attending school regularly. They have also created sports centres and libraries within the schools, and provide much needed school supplies included bags, notebooks, and pencils.

Bal Rashmi Society also has an income generation program for women entrepreneurs to support them in small businesses by providing them with interest free loans in the amount of 10 000rps. This loan helps them fund for equipment which is needed to increase their production and decrease difficult labor work. These entrepreneurs are also provided with ongoing support and guidance to help their businesses grow. In addition to these programs, Bal Rashmi also provides social and financial support to women and families, as well as housing support. They have also helped create small hospitals in rural villages including the Sanjeevani Hospital and Research Centre and eye health camps for rural women.

Some of the challenges the Bal Rashmi Society is facing included a low funding compared to a high need of services. The main challenges include:

1. Need for an increase of funding and support for the income generation program. Many of these women rely on their small businesses to support their families, and by increasing their production and income would in turn increase nutrition & quality of life for their children.
2. Assistance in support for entrepreneur women in terms of skill training & marketing for their small businesses.
3. Provide more equipment for rural government schools, including science labs, in order to give these children a quality education and more opportunities for their future.

With an increase in funding, the Bal Rashmi Society could provide assistance, skills training, and much needed supplies to women and girls in poor communities. Another issue these girls face on a daily basis is a lack of hygienic and available sanitary napkins. With more support, they could supply these girls with hygienic napkins which is a desperate need.

We have promised to help the Bal Rashmi society find funds from India & abroad to help support these women, girls, and families. By investing into these programs for education and training for girls, we are investing into a better future for India.

Mrs. Alice Garg is doing wonderful work for nation building since last 40 years. Such people should be recognised.

Lets unite to help them :)
